Are there fires in the Chelan Valley?

Fire personnel are currently managing the Rainbow Bridge Wildfire.

The Rainbow Bridge Wildfire is burning in Stehekin, approximately 50 miles from the city of Chelan. It is burning approximately 2.5 miles up valley from Stehekin Landing. The fire is estimated to be 3,700 acres and is 30% contained. Over 30 personnel are currently assigned to the fire. The fire began at approximately 4:45pm on July 29 and was caused by lightening.

All lodging facilities and businesses in Stehekin are open and welcoming to visitors. All activities in Stehekin are proceeding as scheduled. There is no interruption in ferry service.

Are there road closures?

On Hwy 97 there is construction underway from Orondo to north of Sun Cove. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays to noon, expect 20 minute delays with flagger controlled traffic (from milepost 213 to milepost 227).

Can I still camp and hike there?

Yes, but there are some limitations. Some Stehekin area trails have been closed due to fire behavior and washouts. Check the status of trails.

Can we have a campfire?

A pre-established burn ban remains in effect in the Chelan Valley. The burn ban will remain in effect through September 30, 2010 on all forest lands under Department of Natural Resources jurisdiction. All outdoor burning is banned with the exception of recreational fires in approved fire pits within designated state, county, municipal or other campgrounds. The use of gas and propane barbeques and self contained stoves are allowed.
