Job Description:

POSITION: Transportation Mechanic
260 days per year, hourly compensation to be determined

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level technical skills training in the mechanical maintenance of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles, and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the maintenance and repair of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles, including experience in repairing mechanical, air, hydraulic, air conditioning and electrical systems.
• Valid Washington State Commercial driver’s license (Class B minimum) with “S” endorsement
• Air brake restriction removed
• Valid 1st Aid/CPR/AED card, or willingness to obtain soon after hiring
• WA State Patrol, FBI, and WA State Sexual Misconduct clearance
• WA State Department of Transportation physical
• Willingness to complete a pre-employment drug test and random drug testing after employment
• Good communication skills: written and verbal
• Good personal relationship skills
• Attendance and punctuality are important aspects of this position

This position independently performs journey-level mechanical duties in the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment. Incumbents assigned independently perform skilled maintenance and repair, including mechanical, air, hydraulic, air conditioning, electronic systems on all our vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and engine malfunctions in buses and other automotive equipment
• Perform welding and repair to chassis of buses and other automotive equipment
• Arrange for bids from commercial shops for repairs, which exceed the capabilities of the district shop
• Maintain a current inventory of equipment, parts, materials and supplies required for proper maintenance of buses, related equipment, other automotive equipment and transportation facilities
• Perform all required regular safety, maintenance, and preventative care inspections of buses and other automotive equipment
• Provide cleaning and organization of the shop, parts room, and other transportation facilities
• Complete vehicle maintenance and supply inventory forms and records as needed
• Operate and maintain all equipment and machines required for repair and maintenance of buses, other automotive equipment, and facilities
• Coordinate maintenance activities with operations to ensure that buses and other automotive equipment are in a ready state to meet operational needs
• Drive a school bus as required for bus maintenance and/or on routes when substitute drivers are not available
• Other duties as assigned
