Seek Your Thrills in Lake Chelan
Many seek out the beautiful and pristine waters of Lake Chelan to unwind, relax, and take a break from the craziness and chaos that is American life. However, there are also those that come to Lake Chelan seeking new experiences, thrills, and adventures. And even if your heart desires relaxation, we have a few local activities for the thrill-seeker we know is inside of you.
The Lake Chelan Valley, including a majority of Eastern Washington, has become an outdoor recreational mecca. River rafting has turned into a hobby for many in the area as the sport continues to expand rapidly. For the past 32 years, River Recreation Whitewater Outfitter has been offering rafting trips to the public on seven of Washington’s amazing rivers, including the Wenatchee River and Methow River, both within a short distance of Lake Chelan.
When Don Martin moved from Alaska and became owner in 2000, he partnered with Amy Hooper, a wine connoisseur from Seattle. Together, they came up with the idea to incorporate the area’s favorite wines with the invigorating thrill of river rafting. They offer two package deals: Whitewater and Wine, and Paddles and Pints. Customers enjoy a whitewater rafting adventure and then plunge into wine or beer tastings at three local wineries and breweries following their ride.
Those who crave the wildest and once-in-a-lifetime thrills, look no further. Skydive Chelan provides top class scenic flights of rolling hills, the Columbia river, and Lake Chelan, as you prepare to jump from the airplane at 11,000 feet. Owners, Todd Higley and Sonya Kadrevis, specialize in first time skydives, ensuring safety as well as enjoyment!
“The team of jumpers at Skydive Chelan, whether instructors, licensed jumpers, students, or first time jumpers make our dropzone environment fun, exciting, and welcoming.”
They are also preparing to launch tandem skydives into wineries. Divers will be able to fly over the lake, land at a local winery, and enjoy a glass of wine with dinner. They will be the only skydiving center in the nation that offers this type of “dive and dine” experience.
Paragliding – The Gateway Sport
Sherry Palmiter, former paraglider and manager at the Chelan Evening Farmers Market, can’t wait to go skydiving.
She started paragliding from the Chelan butte in 1993 just after the Paragliding World Cup was held in Chelan. She flew many hours in the air before she retired about 5 years ago.
“I now want to try skydiving for the first time this year, on my 49th birthday.”
She is looking forward to her first flying experience with Skydive Chelan.
